James purchased a land grant in Blount County on Oct 1, 1823 (Certificate No. 1259). He served as a Justice of the Peace in Blount County 1827-1830 performing the marriage ceremony of his sister-in-law Emalina Eveline Brindley to James Murphree in 1828.
