| Notes for Horatio Philpott WINTON |
| Per Peggy C. Wilson: Horation Winton enlisted in the C.S.A. at age 25 as a private in the Calvary in the same unit as his brothers (Alabama's 4th (Russell's) Calvary, Company D) and was taken prisoner at the same battle. He was a P.O.W. in Louisville, Kentucky and then Camp Douglas, Ohio until the end of the war. He had been without salt for so long that he had lost his hair and nails. He made his way home on foot after his release. |
