Fall Meeting
November 17, 2001




The Meeting was called to order at 1:15 p.m. by Betty Jane Brindley Chalfant,, BIHF President. It was held at:

Harry Grimes opened with the 23rd Psalm and a patriotic tribute to America since the September 11th terrorists attacks. He then lead the group in prayer.

MINUTES 
There were no minutes from the previous meeting that was held at the home of Terry Teal. Everyone who was there had a good time and would like to thank the Teal family for their hospitality.                                           

TREASURER,S REPORT - Harold Brindley
As of November 16th there was $704.19 in the Treasurery. Dues are $10 per person up to $25 per family. Several new member have paid dues is the last month. It was requested that phone number and amount due be added to the online membership form.

 

OLD BUSINESS  

Hugh Payne Brindley made a motion to have John Williams continue as the International Liason from England.

The Brindley Mill's 250th anniversary will be celebrated this summer. A commerrative Saucer and cup will be designed for the celebration and will available from the Brindley Mill Preservation Trust.

The BIHF Tour of England, Wales and Ireland  will be July 17-30, 2002. Currenlty 13 people have paid the $100 deposit for the trip.

NEW BUSINESS 

Betty Brindley from Texas has requested a reprint of "The Old Stagecoach Road" by Mable Brindley. There are just a few treasured copies reamining and the new generations want their own copies. Nancy Brindley will head a committee to research the reprint of the book.

Betty Jane Brindley is currently working on a new book on "The Brindley Family in the South."                               

Betty Jane Brindley brought a copy of the James Brindley Mill Board of Trust Newsletter . The BIHF visit in conjunction with the mill's 250th birthday was mentioned on the first page. The Brindley Mill is raising money by selling sponsorships of Wheel Blades/Peripherals as well as memberships in the trust. Anyone wanting more information can contact Betty Jane Brindley.

Evonne B. Long and Gordon Brindley proposed by letter that Robert Mall Brindley was extended Honorary Membership in the BIHF. He is the author of  "The Brindley,s of Pennsylvania." and he wrote the 1968 detailed genealogy letter to Mable Brindley, the author of The Old Stagecoach Road. Nancy Brindley made a motion for a board to be named in his honor at the Brindley Mill. There was a second by Harry Grimes and all were in favor.

There are 1970 direct descendants of Phoebe and Frazier Brindley in the database on the web site. To date there have been 5,147 visitors to the site. E-mail come is almost every week from newly discovered cousins from all around the globe.

BRINDLEY MOUNTAIN REPORT  - Joe Y. Brindley
The Historical marker at the Brindley Cemetery in Cullman County need to be painted. There is an estimate of $350 to fix the sign. Hugh Payne Brindley made a motion to form a sign restoration committee headed by Joe Brindley. There was a second from Helen Brindley. All were in favor of the committee.

Joe and a group of Brindley descendants attended a meeting of the Marshall County School Board and after some discussion, the school board refused to vote on the Correct spelling of the Middle school on Brindley Mountain. Joe has spoken with several state senators to try to get a new joint resolution passed to correct the name.

Joe was also finally able to talk to Sid McDonald. Mr. McDonald had sold his phone company in Arab, Alabama and formed the Brindlee Holding Company. Even though a WHTN-TV internet poll showed that there in overwhelming support for the correct spelling of Brindley, he still will not budge.

Betty Jane Brindley and Joe Brindley made a presentation to the September meeting of the Arab Historical Society where they received support of the correct spelling of Brindley.

GENEALOGY REPORT - Helen Brindley and Betty Jane Brindley Chalfant
It was discovered in 1820 to 1821 that Frazier Brindley was still alive.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
The is a Brindley Hollow in Tennessee. It was suggested that a meeting in that area, possibly at Falls Creek Resort, be considered in the future.
